Marrons Confits
These chestnuts are preserved in sugar and red grape juice. Christmas flavours such as cardamom, cinnamon and cloves make this French delicacy a wonderful alternative to cookies.

Step 1
Wash the chestnuts. Cut the round side crosswise and place on a baking tray.
Step 2
Preheat the oven to 200°C and roast the chestnuts for about 40 minutes until they are soft.
Step 3
Remove from oven and peel.
Step 4
Heat the sugar, grape juice and spices in a saucepan and reduce to a thick syrup for about 20 minutes.
Step 5
Add the chestnuts and heat together with the syrup.
Step 6
Pour into prepared jars and close immediately.
Step 7
If the jars are under vacuum, the chestnuts will last for about 1 year.
Step 8
The chestnuts taste great on their own, with cheese or ham and are a great Christmas gift for gourmets.
