Step 1

Wash the chestnuts. Cut the round side crosswise and place on a baking tray.

Preheat the oven to 200°C and roast the chestnuts for about 40 minutes until they are soft.

Remove from oven and peel.

Heat the sugar, grape juice and spices in a saucepan and reduce to a thick syrup for about 20 minutes.

Add the chestnuts and heat together with the syrup.

Pour into prepared jars and close immediately.

If the jars are under vacuum, the chestnuts will last for about 1 year.

The chestnuts taste great on their own, with cheese or ham and are a great Christmas gift for gourmets.
